DIAGONAL GARDEN

In a recently extended bungalow in a village location surrounded by detached houses, the house has had an extension to the back and into the roof to make it a one and a half story building. The clients enjoy gardening and growing vegetables and are looking to include a greenhouse into the design. They are looking to increase privacy, incorporate terraces near the house and a rear of the garden to exploit evening sun and include a formal water feature. The front requires an enlarged driveway for 2 vehicles and more welcoming area by the front entrance.

The design utilises a 45° angle to maximise the sense of space and zones the garden with low clipped hedges and hand built stone walls that contrast against soft naturalistic planting. A long formal water feature sits in front of a display of large topiary spheres leading to an evening terrace shaded under parasol trees and flanked by a limestone clad wall with an aperture window giving a views of meadow planting and a native mixed hedge offering privacy from neighbouring gardens. A kitchen garden has been created siting a new greenhouse, bespoke oak seating and easily accessed raised beds linked with archways offering verticality to the scheme.
