Family Summer Perennial Kitchen Forest Party Gravel Winter Vegetable Wild

At Our Garden, we believe every garden tells a story — and we help bring that story to life.

Gardens take many forms. They can be lively family spaces, productive places for growing vegetables, settings for entertaining and gathering, or quiet retreats shaped by a range of planting styles. Whether in a city street, a suburban development, or a rural landscape, a garden can offer calm, joy, and connection, responding to the rhythms of everyday life.

Every garden we create is shaped by its setting and by how it will be used. Grounded in sustainability and thoughtful craftsmanship, our designs embrace a wide range of styles — from structured and contemporary to naturalistic and wild — always rooted in place, climate, and the people who will care for and enjoy them. For us, a garden is more than plants and pathways; it is a living, evolving space where connection, creativity, and growth can flourish together.

“Gardening is an active dialogue with living material. It is about where and who we are, regardless of conventions”

Erik A.de Jong, On the Necessity of Gardening

Fresh Perspective

Fresh Perspective is a service for those wanting direction in the overall feel and potential of their outdoor spaces.

  • Discovery:

Getting to you know you and your garden. This involves a detailed questionnaire, site photos, reference images and videos will be requested if online consultation is booked rather than in person.

    Consultation:

One hour in-person (in and around Glasgow)/online consultation where aspirations and potential challenges are discussed and project goals are set.

    Summary:

A summation of the consultation is issued via email and once agreed is moved into the creation of a detailed Creative Brief.

    Creative Brief:

A short document that outlines the key details, goals and direction. A road-map that includes simple Diagrams, Sketches, Mood Boards and Implementation Plan.

Planting Plans

Our Planting Plans are tailored to shape the perfect natural setting for your garden—whether you’re envisioning a complete redesign or simply enhancing an existing space.

  • Discovery, Creative Brief & Analysis:

Through our Creative Brief and Site Analysis process, we find out about you, listen to your vision and study the unique character of your space — its light, soil, and setting. This is where ideas take root, ensuring the design grows from both your personality and lifestyle and the spirit of the garden itself.

    Design:

Building on our discussion we create a Concept Design that resonates with the Creative Brief and Analysis. This is a collaboration, so your feedback will be essential to reach an agreed scheme. Then we move onto layout and specification and present you with Mood Boards, Planting Plans and more technical information.

    Bring the Design to Life:

Depending on the project we can implement the design in-house, making sure the soil prep, plant supply and placement are carried out to the highest standards. Where a landscaper is required we can support you in finding a landscaper and be involved in overseeing the implementation of the design, making sure the end results reflect your goals.

    Care Plan:

We leave you with a plan on how to best look after your plants in the months and years to come, as they grow and evolve.

Full Design

Our Full Design 8-stage process will guide you through every stage of your project, from Concept Design to Completion.

  • Stage 1-4

    1: Discovery & Briefing

Through our discovery and briefing process we find out about you, listen to your vision and aspirations and carefully consider the personal use and practical functional requirements of the space. We give a precursory look at the land and consider the aspirations with the realities of the site. From this we write up a brief and a proposal along with a fee structure and outline of the deign process. Once this is agreed we move onto Stage two.

    2: Site Survey & Analysis

Site survey and analysis is one of the most critical stages in the design process. It ensures that every creative decision is grounded in real, practical understanding of the site. To do this we arrange a professional land survey from a third party to ascertain; topography, boundaries, existing features (trees, patios, structures), underground utilities, and drainage patterns. We additionally analyse the soil, existing vegetation, light levels, orientation, weather, geology, circulation and key views as well as any historical and social context of the area. This creates a base plan that summarises the character of the garden from which to work from.

    3: Concept Design

The concept design stage establishes the overall vision and structure of the garden. Initial ideas are developed in response to the site, client brief, and context, exploring layout, spatial relationships, and how the garden will be used.

Concept drawings and sketches are used to communicate atmosphere, character, and key design principles, including circulation, views, and planting intent. This stage sets the creative direction for the project and forms the foundation for design development and masterplanning.

    4: Design Development

The design development stage builds on the approved concept and begins to shape the garden through a coordinated masterplan. At this point, the overall layout is refined, with careful consideration given to levels, circulation, and how the garden relates to the house and surrounding landscape.

Materials, finishes, and key features are explored and tested to ensure they are appropriate for the site and the character of the property. Planting strategies are developed in response to aspect, soil, and seasonal change, while practical elements such as drainage, access, and long-term maintenance are integrated into the design. Where helpful, 3D visualisations can be produced to support the design process, allowing key spaces and relationships to be explored and clearly communicated. This stage results in a well-resolved and technically considered design, providing a robust foundation for detailed drawings and future implementation.

    Stage 5-6

    5: Detail Design

The detailed design stage translates the approved masterplan into a comprehensive set of construction drawings and specifications. All elements of the garden are fully resolved, including levels, dimensions, materials, finishes, and build details. Technical drawings are developed to clearly communicate design intent to contractors, covering hard landscaping, structures, drainage, and planting layouts. This stage ensures the design is buildable, accurate, and coordinated, providing clarity for pricing, programming, and on-site construction.

    6: Planting Plan & Schedules

Planting plans are developed to support the structure and character of the garden, responding to site conditions such as soil, aspect, and light levels. Plant selections are carefully considered for seasonal interest, longevity, and suitability to the setting. Detailed planting drawings and schedules specify plant species, sizes, quantities, and spacing, providing clear guidance for procurement and installation. This stage ensures the planting design is practical, coherent, and capable of establishing and maturing successfully over time.

    Stage 7-8

7: Bring the Design to Life

This stage supports the transition from design to construction. Tender information is prepared to enable accurate pricing from contractors, and assistance can be provided during the tender process to help assess submissions and clarify scope. During construction, site inspections may be carried out to monitor progress, ensure the works align with the approved drawings, and address any design-related queries that arise on site. This stage helps maintain design quality through to completion and supports a smooth and coordinated build process.

    8: Aftercare

Aftercare ensures that the garden continues to thrive after installation. This can include seasonal visits, advice on plant establishment, pruning, watering, and fertilisation schedules. Guidance is provided to support long-term health, aesthetic development, and the ongoing evolution of the garden, helping clients enjoy their investment to the fullest.

Clients can opt for the full package or begin the process with Stages 1-4, initial consultation fee with be subtracted from final amount.
